Treating Dry Mouth Conditions & Potential Side Effects of Xerostomia

Because different people obtain varying benefits from different medications and products for dry mouth relief we provide more than just one type of product for the treatment of xerostomia. As mentioned previously, one of the concerns of having a lower salivary output is the increased susceptibility to tooth decay and gum disease due the higher viscosity of the saliva, the more acidic pH levels, and the increased adherence of plaque or bacteria to the surfaces of the teeth and gums. Patients suffering with dry mouth conditions are much more prone to developing tooth decay, especially around dental restorations or near the gum line. The Hydro Floss oral irrigating machine that we have been using and recommending to our patients for many years will actually reduce bacterial levels throughout the entire mouth by preventing the adherence of the bacteria and tarter to both the teeth and gum structures. This high-tech device combines magnetohydrodynamics with the properties of an oral irrigator. It looks similar to the traditional water pick, but is as different as night and day.
